The Trump administration recognises how legacy is impeding innovation. Not just impede. More like downright obstruct.
Recently US president Donald Trump’s administration released his 2020 budget. In the report the Trump administration criticizes the agency’s customer services. “The government lags by as much as nine points behind the private sector.”
The administration wants to see improvement of the user experience at government services. One of the ideas is to use Robotic Process Automation and have human work replaced by software bots. However, legacy systems continue to take the largest share of IT funds.
The challenge that government IT faces is the amount of budget it has to allocate to maintain its legacy systems, which makes up about 80% of federal IT spending. Because of this, there isn’t a “huge dollar amount” being invested yet in RPA or AI in IT, says Deniece Peterson, director of federal market analysis at Deltek.
