Modern Woodmen of America is one of the largest fraternal benefit societies in the United States, with more than 750,000 members. The organization has helped provide financial security to families since 1883.
The organization had been running its OS2200 mainframe for over 50 years. Its employees have developed their own COBOL applications and built custom-made solutions for their business, which enabled them to automate many processes and deliver some insurance products without human intervention. However, their COBOL developer workforce is aging. In addition, development processes were too slow to keep up with the ever-changing business demands. The legacy platform was restrictive.
“This has been an incredible project,” Bignall says. “With every challenge a solution was found, which proved the dedication, talent and hard work of the entire team, Modern Woodmen and Asysco. It was not an easy journey, but we made it happen, together!”
Nathan Bignall, Project Manager, Modern Woodmen of America.
