Insurance group VIVAT, located in Amstelveen and Alkmaar, the Netherlands, migrated its obsolete Unisys mainframe to a Microsoft SQL environment. Lead time: just over twelve months.
In the February 2018 edition of the Dutch IT magazine Computable, journalist Rik Sanders interviews VIVAT Managing Director IT and change Marcel van de Lustgraaf and his IT Manager Sander Nienkemper. The migration was necessary to reduce costs and facilitate the implementation of IT innovations. ‘An extraordinary project’ is what those involved think. Hardly any problems, zero outage and no escalation that ended up with the board of directors.
